A renovation 9 years in the making is coming to a close. The Denver Art Museum will reopen the new Lanny and Sharon Martin Building, formerly known as North Building, to the public on Oct. 24.
The renovations expanded the gallery space and added two restaurants, including the Ponti, a chef Jen Jasinski joint that will be open for lunch daily, and Café Gio, a coffee shop.
Back in 2012, museum staff started brainstorming a remodel of the architecturally notable but outdated building designed by famed Italian architect Gio Ponti and Denver-based James Sudler Associates in the '70s. In addition to private fundraising, the project got a boost from Denver voters in 2017 who approved bond funding for the renovations. Construction began in 2018.
The opening day celebrations will be free to the public. The museum said more details about opening events will be announced in the fall.
